What is included in the upstream transportation and distribution category?
The upstream transportation and distribution category includes the emissions generated during the final delivery of products from the organization's direct suppliers (i.e., tier 1 suppliers). Any transportation emissions upstream of tier 1 suppliers are included in the purchased goods (category 1) and capital goods (category 2) emissions factors. This category also includes any transportation services purchased by the organization. Upstream transportation and distribution is category 4 of scope 3.
What options are available in SIMAP for upstream transportation and distribution data entry?
- Purchasing data: Enter dollars spent by purchasing category. You can assign any of the purchasing data categories to the upstream transportation and distribution category. Note that purchasing data is intended to provide an order of magnitude estimate. See this page for guidance on purchasing data entry.
